Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd T20I Preview
Tim Southee, the stand-in skipper, was delighted with the way, the Kiwis kept their nerves to clinch the first T20I of the series. It was his fourth consecutive win in T20Is as a captain.
The visitors took a lot of positives from the opening fixture but, there were some points which need to be addressed before the 2nd T20I. The experienced Ross Taylor was once again brilliant with the bat as he smashed 48 off just 29 balls. He was well supported by Colin de Grandhomme who went on to score 44 off 28 balls. Tim Southee was delighted with the way; his batsmen responded when it was needed. Especially, young Daryl Mitchell, who held his nerves in the final stages to finish the game with 19 balls 25. There were some questions in the first T20I which need to be answered. Seth Rance went for 58 runs in his four overs that propelled the hosts to reach 174/5 in the first inning. Now, with Lockie Ferguson ruled out of the T20I Series, it is expected that Seth Rance will get another game to prove his worth. It will be interesting to see how he comes back in the second fixture of the series.
For Sri Lanka, it's a do and die match. They have to win this to keep the series alive. There were some great individual performances in the first T20I, but, they were not enough to stop Kiwis from registering a win. Kusal Mendis was the star of the day for the hosts, who piled on 79 off just 53 balls with eight 4s and two 6s. With the ball, the captain himself performed well. He picked up two wickets for 23 runs in his four overs. Except these two, there were no remarkable performances by the host, and it is easy to say they lost the thriller in Pallekele last night (September 1, 2019).
In the last game, the margin which separated both sides was minimal. So it is expected that the home side will come out all guns blazing tonight. The contest will be worth watching.
